Koroni, Peloponnese - Finakounda, Peloponnese

Monday 5th July – Koroni, Peloponnese – Finakounda, Peloponnese 36:48.365N 21:48.511E
We had a good sleep in a thankfully quiet anchorage and following a late breakfast, with a breath of wind whispering through the bay, we set sail.
We were not planning on going far, so, with a light wind on the nose, we decided to tack our way down the coast. We managed around 4 knots and worked our way diagonally to the point at Ák Akritas.
We didn’t fancy short tacking through the narrowish gap between the mainland and the island of Venétiko, so we pulled in the genoa and motored through. Once on the other side we resumed tacking up the other side of the point.
We were going quite slowly but then half way up the coast, the wind suddenly kicked in and we were flying along, reefing as we went, with the wind peaking at 18-20 knots close hauled (bringing water over the bow).
As we approached Finakounda, the wind came round and we were able to finish on a single tack towards the harbour. As we motored into the lee of the harbour the wind eased and we found a lovely patch of sand in which to place our hook. We dug the anchor in well and I swam the chain to make sure it was well in.
Late afternoon we dinghied ashore to take a look around; it is a small and pretty village. We found a small supermarket and topped up on a few provisions. There is a tap on the mole by the harbour so we have dinghied a couple of containers of water out to Pyxis to top up our tanks.
This evening the wind has dropped and we have enjoyed dinner aboard in the bay – perfect.
