Cagliari (Sant 'Elia)

Sunday 12th October – Cagliari 39:12.064N 9:07.510E
Today we went for another hike - this time in the opposite direction to the Sunday market at Sant ‘Elia, one of the nearby housing estates. The local road network (maze-like) and the need to cross the canal made this more of a challenge than first anticipated but having finally found a footbridge by the football stadium we were eventually on our way. The market was quite sprawling and very busy with locals. We stocked up on some vegetables and then headed back. This time we found a slightly easier route passing by the athletics track and we were soon back at Pyxis – but next time we may take the bus J
This evening we went to a ‘surprise’ BBQ for one of the residents in the marina to celebrate his birthday. It was a good evening with most of the boats there and as ever great to have all the different nationalities together. Richard and David were promptly drafted in to handle the cooking on the two big grills and enjoyed every minute of it.
Late in the evening everybody was given a glass of champagne and a piece of cake and we all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ – Cape then gave a rendition in Welsh which was followed by another rendition in Swedish. After a spell of dancing, everyone sat around chatting until very late.
