Wednesday 23rd June – Khania, Crete (More wind)

35:31.123N 24:01.153E

The wind blew up again overnight and then eased a little around dawn.  At 7am we heard the sound of an engine at the bow and looking out of the hatch were surprised that the large boat beside us had decided to go out; more surprisingly, after putting up a reefed main in the outer harbour, it appeared to set off west.

Soon after the westerly wind filled in again and has spent the rest of the day blowing a hoolie through the harbour.  The wind has blown a steady F6 or F7 directly across our beam most of the day with only occasional lulls, in fact each time it eased to F4/5 it felt like it had stopped.

Outside the harbour the sea has been covered with white horses again, and needless to say the tripper boats have stayed tied up alongside (as have the fishing boats).  The forecasts show stronger winds and a large swell just offshore, and around lunchtime we were even treated to some rain.

With our neighbours gone, we have reset our lines back to where we were originally to make it easier to get ashore and added more lines to hold us firm in the gusts.  We have spent most of the day aboard with only a few forays ashore to get provisions or to look at the waves from the harbour wall.
