Our decision to postpone departure seems to have been a good one. We left the town dock in Marion at 8:30 in lovely weather, after loading the last minute stores, mainly frozen but also treats of cake and cookies. The send off party on the dock of Travis, Mauna and Chris and Veronique Bale let go our lines and we were off, all be it slowly under engine. down the harbour Julius and Mette  Feinlieb in Idunn  motored with us up the harbour with Mette waving and photographing from the foredeck. Then Les Dole came by in his dinghy shouting his well wishes. But this was not to be the end of the goodbyes as when we passed Converse Point there was more waving of white hankies. Actually one of them could have been a bed sheet, well at least a tea towel.
The morning wind was fickle so the engine helped as we went down Buzzards Bay through Quicks Hole and round Gay Head Light on Martha's Vineyard and passed Nomansland to the Atlantic.
Things seem to settle well and the easy conditions allowed us to investigate our only problem, the log, which refused to perform. Attempts to fix it even replacing the sender unit with our spare were to no avail so we will have to rely on GPS.
The engine could be dispensed with after lunch in favour of close reaching with the Aries steering. Watches were established, 3 on 6 off , which rotate nicely with three watchkeepers.
The night, though a chilly 16C passed without incident with only a couple of fishing boats and a freighter to report.
This morning is bright and sunny with the temp now a respectable 20C. The ships on route to New York and Baltimore are now passing well behind us only seen on the AIS. The only interest coming from a brief but certain whale sighting.
At 8:30 this morning we had coved the first 140Nm which were happy with.
If the rest of the trip is like this then will have the boring trip Julius wished for us. Of course that is not going to happen.

PS Tom. The iPod arrived in time so I'm looking forward to some  Dylan's Theme Time Hour. He did a similar but different show for BBC Radio 2 later.
