Leros Marina for the winter

Apologies to our followers

October 2011 – you must have been wondering where we had got to ! Position 37:07.742N 26:51.46E We enjoyed glorious sunshine and gentle sailing for the
short 20 mile trip from Levitha to Leros. The marina is at the far end of Lakki bay in a very quiet
and protected corner. Everyone is friendly and helpful and the staff even
answered our radio call and came to help us with our lines, very well organised
for the Greeks ! You can see
The weather here is fantastic with clear blue skies and
temperatures down to around 25 degrees during the day and 15 degrees at night. Great temperatures for working on the boat and so we have
commenced our list of winter ‘jobs’ to bring Blue Magic back to tip
top condition. Lockers have been emptied and cleared out, wiring tested and
replaced, stainless steel polished, topsides polished, ropes washed etc etc. Mark even fitted new external cockpit speakers yesterday so
we have music outside again – he is so clever ! There are two good chandlers here and endless hardware
stores so there is no shortage of spare parts and tools. The town is not typically Greek , the roads are wide and
lined with large art deco buildings left over from the Italian occupation during
the war. However the locals are very friendly and there are plenty of
shops for fresh fruit and vegetables and general provisions not to mention 4
bakeries, 4 butchers, numerous cake shops and of course several kebab houses
and restaurants. The DVD hire shop also doubles as a hairdresser so Mark is
sporting a short new look and the owner thinks Christmas has come early as we
regularly hire a movie in the evening. The descriptions are all in Greek but
the movies are all in English ! Lakki – with it’s Art Deco buildings along the
waterfront.
