Union Island

We had less than an hour trip to However we have to report that we have a new member of the
Reef Club… ‘Roundabout’ went aground in the anchorage and,
although they were not in serious trouble, they were immediately surrounded by
local boat boys who boarded the yacht all wanting to tie on lines to help tow
them off and claim their salvage money. It was very intimidating for David & Joe and none of the
boats were working together, making the situation much worse. We were ashore but heard the calls on the radio and Mark and
Paul (Excelsior Rescue) raced to the dinghy and back to ‘Blue Magic’
ready to offer assistance. ‘Roundabout’ was off the reef before Mark had
hoisted the anchor and so Mark and Paul went over to help negotiate with the
numerous locals still aboard the yacht. They told them all to go except one person who they would
negotiate with and the final price came down to a fraction of what they were
originally asking. It is so good to have back up around us with the other rally
participants ! Tomorrow we are provisioning ashore before heading to the
next island which is around 400 miles away, 2 ½ days. Next stop is especially good for scuba diving so we are
looking forward to that. |
