We are Safe

Position 08:35.449N 78:55.748W Following the major earthquake in The Tsunami is estimated to be between only 5 – 7 feet
and is due to pass by us around now – 9.30am local time which is UTC -5. We have headed out of the anchorage to deep, safe water
along with all the other rally boats and we will be bobbing around for the next
couple of hours until the warning has passed. A Tsunami is only dangerous when it reaches land or shallow
areas so we are quite safe here and we are unlikely to even notice it pass by. Anyway, we had a lovely beach party and barbeque for Mark on
the island last night and we were very foggy this morning when we received a
phone call at 5.00am from Discovery. We have some sort of wiring/short circuit
problem with our generator and we had asked them to phone us asap. Unfortunately, although the generator is working fine, we
have no power output to our equipment. This is a major problem for us as we are
unable to make water. We have an electrical engineer on the rally and he is
helping us, so we hope to track the problem soon. The Tsunami warning issued to us at 7.00am this morning put
a stop to our investigations and, since most boats were still asleep, Mark
rallied round in our dinghy to alert everyone. We are now at sea with tools and
‘bits’ out all over the place ! |
