More Moorea

Position 17:29.458S 149:51.138W We are anchored in a new bay – Bai D’Opunohu in
Moorea It is even more beautiful than the last one ! Today we took the dinghy to a shallow, sandy reef where some
tour boats go and feed the rays. Oh my god – we snorkelled in 3 feet of water
surrounded by huge sting rays and black tipped reef sharks. The rays were around 1 metre diameter and were very graceful
swimming along with their wings lifting to show the pale colour underneath and
their long thin black tails like spears trailing behind. The reef sharks varied from 1 to 2 metres and came right
into the shallow area too, it was so amazing. My underwater camera has stopped working – so no
photos ! Tonight we are going to leave before dusk to arrive at the
next island in the morning light. |
