Day 16

Position 08:51.08S 133:35.6W Friday 9th April We eventually gave up trying to sail in so little wind and
we have motored through the night. A bit disappointing after such good sailing during the last couple
of weeks, we were hoping to sail all the way. The sea is much calmer however and so we have been able to
open all the hatches and get some ventilation through the boat. Ashley closed his hatch before retiring to bed – he is
very wary of flying fish since his unfortunate close encounter with them ! We can’t wait to explore Nuku Hiva and the pilot books
have been out today again to read up about what’s in store for us….. The island is spectacular rising to 4000ft above the sea and
the book says ‘verdant valleys dotted with cascading waterfalls and
jagged, magnificently sculptured peaks’ It is also the remote land of recent cannibalism ! Chicken Tika Masala for dinner – I don’t want to
cook anymore ! Mark and Ashely did a wonderful job of washing up and making
the tea after dinner. . |
