The last run into Bermuda was similarly frustrating we had expected more wind but they were light with only 10 knots and this was on the stern bringing some swell with it too.

We managed well with the Tradewind sail, put away the main and whilst the wind was directly behind us we made about 5 knots albeit with an uncomfortable roll.

About 12 hours out the wind veered round to come on our port rear quarter so we furled the downwind sail. Lowered it. Adjusted the sheets to the other side and then unfurled it on the starboard side. This made for slightly more comfortable sailing but still at only 5 knots.

At 0800 we could identify the finish line cardinal and the entrance through the Town Cut to St Georges Harbour.

We finally crossed the finish line at 0858hrs local time and then called Bermuda Radio for permission to enter the Harbour and made our way once through The Cut to the Marina to arrive just about at 0930hrs to be rafted up next to an Italian boat who had promised us a welcome Italian coffee.

We were greeted enthusiastically by the ARC team and instructed to go direct to customs to clear in. Once we ad completed formalities we made straight for The White Horse for three pints as a celebration for our arrival. As we sat there supping our well-deserved pints the heavens opened and a massive lightening storm was unleashed at about 1030hrs.

We wondered about the fate of the boats behind us and felt pleased that we had made it in just before the storm. A quick tidy up of the boat was followed by a siesta ready for the Rum tasting in the evening. This was a great success and it was nice to catch up with the other boats and share stories.

Now 5 days here in Bermuda before heading off for the Azores on Wednesday morning.
