We left Prince Rupert Bay at around 8am and
once out of the lea of Dominica quickly picked up 20-25knots of wind so made
good time towards the Islands of Les Saintes arriving in the south west passage
at about 10am. I pondered going through the passage as the guide said to avoid
in bad weather and poor visiability and I had seen no other boats in the
passage. The depth in the channel was shallow in parts and I was concerned with
the Atlantic swell and fetch that it could kick up some rough seas in the
passage. I edges closed and assessed that I could always about turn to excape as
it was now gusting upto 30 knots. Needless to say we made the passage in good
time and picked up a mooring bouy just before 11am. We later learnt that any
later we would have been unlikely to get one as they are allocated on first come
first served basis and it's a really popular spot.
We stayed for two nights and explored the main town,
experienced the restaurants and also visited Fort Napoleon on the hillside above
so it was nice to take breath and spend some time here but it was winding
especially overnight so we were glad of the mooring
buoy. |
