Beautiful Barbuda

After a couple of aborted attempts finally made it to Barbuda and it didn’t disappoint.
I arrived in Jolly Harbour on Monday, had Tuesday as a boat fixing day until the crew arrived around 4pm. Wednesday was an R&R day and we checked out of the Marina at 4pm to anchor just outside so that we could leave at first light.
Retired to bunk at 8pm as was having trouble keeping awake and knowing I would be up at 5am so seemed like the right thing to do.
Rose at 5am to make obligatory tea and first light was 5:30am so we pulled up anchor and left under motor only to be chased out by rain clouds so jackets on and first hour was pretty rainy. We set a course for Barbuda with 15knots of wind from the east and a slight sea was a really nice sail and a good intro for the crew. Great excitement on the way over as we landed our first fish but not before snapping the line of the one that got away.
We arrived at Barbuda anchorage just after midday and after as I had read I was a little nervous but approach was uneventful and we dropped anchor off the beach opposite the lagoon. Lunch was the fish that we had caught which we chopped in half and half went in the freezer and half in the pot. The results were delicious but appreciated by only the older crew!
Today we need to tender a couple of miles into Codrington so hopefully we have enough fuel and the outboard behaves. Once there we will try and sort a trip to see the frigate birds after checking out with immigration.
Then off tomorrow morning to St Barts.
