Loved being in Sines but having repaired the staysail furler and with good winds for going north, a rarity, came to Cascais for the bimini repair, which was shredded coming from the Azores.
A great sail, 60.5 miles in 10 hours, last 2 very slow. Tiring, as had to be very vigilant particularly when under engine - lobster pots everywhere, poorly marked and some with very long floating lines, almost invisible until you go over them. Did enjoy a visit from a pod of dolphins.
Anchored in bay, close to the beach, soon after 5pm, tidied boat, had supper. Got in touch with lady from Stitch and Restore, who will restitch the rear part of the bimini, to arrange delivery tomorrow or later. Both very sleepy and exhausted from very early start and the sail, somewhat horrified to get a text from Kate saying she was in the marina and “ready to accept the package”. Hastily launched dinghy and made contact with her. She’s in final stages of a large project- soft furnishings for a massive luxury catamaran. Makes our job look pitiful.
Had opted to anchor, reviews mentioned marina had poor loos and showers and is expensive. It was full of racing yachts and even has a heliport. Smart marina building but gangways and pontoons lacking in tlc. Good decision not to go in, we don’t race and don’t have a helicopter.
What a contrast to Sines. Cascais is very touristy, enormous inflatable water slide park close by just off the beach so prepared for noise. Weather overcast so keeping people away perhaps. View to the right.

View to the left, beach much smaller and less popular.
