This place, Victory Bay, is named after the victory over the Miguelites by the liberal troops under the command of the Duke of Terceira in 1829.

A Monument to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the patroness of the city, overlooks the bay.
In arrival, anchored off the beach with a good sandy bottom. After a quick breakfast, a long sleep then showers using the available hot water, heated by the engine, got the dinghy ready and outboard checked for trip ashore to check in.
Made contact with Siggi again, the OCC Port Officer who invited us to join some of the rally events last year in Angra. He was in Praia with his wife at the bar overlooking the beach and was watching us. Ashore too late to check in, but in time for a couple of beers and a catch up. Our latest OCC penant has shredded, so hoped to buy a new one from Siggi but since Brexit, all OCC merch has to be imported and tax paid so he has nothing to offer.
This can be a noisy spot, very close to the airport and US military airbase. Numerous planes and jets have flown over and an army helicopter has been sweeping over the beach a number of times, the pilot was having great fun.
Booked a restaurant for tomorrow, Father’s Day. Hope to be reimbursed as F is not my father.
