F has made several trips to the gas station by taxi to fill our two diesel cans. Needed to fill the tanks and have a couple of cans on deck this time. Have been warned of the Azores High and the need to go under engine for the last 24 hours at least. A was dropped off at Foodland to do the top up shop which cost 50% more than the original main shop. How did that happen? Anyhow, fridge is now full.
Packet Inn, great name for an Island Packet sailing boat, is alongside us. We were behind them for the winter in Lewisporte and they kindly kept an eye on Scot Free. Had a meal out together last night and farewell drinks this evening. After much deliberating and prevaricating, we have decided to leave in the morning.
Very warm today, temperature in the saloon went up to 28 while I was cooking but equally,at this time of year, we were told, they could have 3 ft of snow. Mad.
Had an unexpected visit from Duncan, whom we first met in Baddeck in 2019. We met up again last year in Trinity and went to the theatre there. He had 7 visitors who came for a reunion with Renee and while sightseeing he “engineered” a visit to Bonavista and came to say goodbye. Really great to see him again.
A keen to leave before the capelin arrive end June, beginning July. Capelin are small sardine like fish that come here to spawn. The whales arrive then in their hundreds to feed on them. Much as we’d like to see them wouldn’t wish to encounter too many. The waters round us at the moment are free of icebergs, so one less thing to worry about.
Aiming for Flores but depending on the wind may end up in Horta on Faial. F will hopefully take over the blog en route.
