Engine on, engine off, sails in, sails out. Our overnight trip was varied. We made the decision to go for it when we were sailing well and doing 7 knots! We never learn. How quickly things change. We covered almost 125 nautical miles from Prospect to Louse Harbour but averaged 4 knots (a brisk walking pace). A lot of swell which made it rather unpleasant and engine noise meant sleep was very difficult.
Saw whales blowing (probably minke from the number and duration of blows , a few short, then a deep dive) and 3 dolphins. A few solitary gannets but number of seabirds generally very small.
Now in a delightful anchorage but must have been one of the trickiest to enter between drying rocks and islets, very difficult to capture in a photo. An elderly chap in a small fishing boat appeared from nowhere and seemed to be guiding us in, but without confirmation (he didn’t wave or acknowledge us) we didn’t want to rely on him. He circled a perfect anchor spot a few times then disappeared. Not other soul around.
Came in at low tide when most obstacles were uncovered. Hopefully we‘ll leave first thing unscathed to do another overnighter to St Pierre et Miquelon. Should arrive late Saturday.
