Walking around Christchurch you are reminded
of England's past. With an Anglican cathedral in the square, punts gliding down
the Avon River and trams running through the city.
Armed with our guide book, we set off on a
walking tour of the city. We started in cathedral square and walked along
Worcester Street, crossing Gloucester Street and then walking up pretty New
Regent Street full of pastel colored Spanish architecture, avoiding the
trams.
    We followed the tramline to Victoria Square
and bumped into some old friend's Queen Victoria and Captain James Cook. We
then strolled along the banks of the Avon River.
  It was too cold for a trip along the river
so we abandoned the tour here as we needed to kit ourselves out with some warmer
clothes as we are heading south and hope to do some skiing.
That evening we went to an area known
as SOL (south of Lichfield) Square to the 'Fish and Chip shop' with mismatched
1960's furniture and fish and chips served wrapped in newspaper, like the good
old days.
