It was time to move on again, only a
few miles though, down to Phi Phi Le where the beautiful Maya Bay is surrounded
entirely by sheer cliffs. Unfortunately, the island and the bay found fame many
years ago as it was the location for the film 'The Beach' starring Leonardo Di
Caprio and subsequently hundreds visit the island during daylight hours. The
beach was covered with people, speedboats and longtails, it was completely
spoilt but we knew we would have the bay to ourselves once the
day-trippers left.
Full of
day-trippers
Amy and Jack set off in Fai
Tira's kayak to explore the nooks and crannies in the bay and found a
beautiful little beach for us to have a barbeque with Blue Magic and Fai Tira.
Early evening before the sun went down Jack and Paul went over to our private
beach to set up a fire. Whilst over there and collecting fire wood Paul stamped
on a crate and imbedded two rusty nails into his foot. He failed to inform me
until later on in the evening so the two holes weren't cleaned and he is now
hobbling around and unable to put his foot on the ground. It's like having 3
children! And it was all done in vain, because Jack also returned with 15
mosquito bites so the whole thing was called off. Funnily enough, no-one
fancied carrying the dinghy's 100 metres over coral and being eaten alive, so
instead we all took our food to Blue Magic who hosted the party as they have a
barbeque on board.
Tweedle dumb and tweedle dee -
they kept going in circles!
Rusty nails!

The following morning the beach
was deserted and the water was calm as there were no longtails or speedboats
entering the bay at 50 mph. It was stunning! The peace and quiet didn't last for
long however, as the first boats started to arrive around 8 am. We had some fun
watching charter boats getting caught on coral and attempting to pick up mooring
buoys before we set off for our next destination, Koh Dam Khwan.
