Given the rapid deterioration of the cutlass bearing, the decision has been made to head back to Cleopatra marina to have the boat lifted and the cutlass bearing replaced. This would require running under sail almost exclusively. We left Argostoli at 7am and made our way under sail all the way to Vathi, Ithaci. The winds were mixed, from almost millpond to plus 20 knots. We ran the motor in idle sparingly, when we were making zero headway, and when laying the anchor. We had been on the water for 14.5 hours covering nearly 55NM. A further issue compounding our situation, when furling the main coming into Vathi, it continued furling after releasing the control button. The outhaul tension resulted in the electric breaker to trip. After resetting the breaker, the inmast furler restarted without the control button being pressed. Now something has occurred where the inmast furling motor is not functioning. We went to shore for a late dinner then returned to Westralia. Mick and I started to fault find the inmast furler, removed panel below switch panel and gave them all a contact cleaner spray, accessed the in mast furler motor control box, no luck, gave up at midnight.
