Late morning we headed inshore and hired a car to visit the historic town of Berat, a couple of hours out of Vlore. We had lunch a historic restaurant then walked 1.3kms up a very steep road to the old castle. Dating back to 7th-5th centuries
BC. As is the case across the Balkans, it endured numerous assaults over the centuries. It includes numerous churches and mosques. From the castle walls there are spectacular views across Berat, the Osum river and to the mountains in the background. On our
return we stopped at a local winery for a wine tasting and purchased a couple of bottles. Back to the boat, we had a light dinner aboard. Towards restaurant in Berat Restaurant, Berat Church at Berat Castle Minaret, Red Mosque, Berat castle View of Berat and Osum river from Berat Castle
