Alderney
We were in a bit of a panic this morning as we thought we'd made a mistake
with the tides going to Alderney; up to 8 knots flow and can be very unforgiving
if you get it wrong. However, it worked out well and at one stage we were going
10.3 knots through the water, in the right direction, and made it safely into
the entrance of Braye Harbour just as the tide was turning behind us with white
horses and a nasty chop visible.
We are now anchored in the natural harbour although the swell is making
life on board a little tricky. We are hoping the promised forecast for SW wind
tomorrow will cancel out the swell and leave us in peace.
It has been most odd to hear Solent Coastguard and Falmouth Coastguard on
the VHF radio and makes us feel very close to home. There was a friendly welcome
from Mainbrayce Taxi and we will go ashore tomorrow to do formalities and
passports, meanwhile flying our 'Q' flag to show are outside the EU.
The children have adapted very well to being back on TC. There are jelly
fish all around the boat which Harry reckons are 'Sea nettles' and there was
much amusement at an elegant gentleman (huge seagull) perched on the back of the
boat. Unfortunately, we are having to send this by sat phone so photos another
day.
Bol's birthday tomorrow so the galley has been busy ............. doing
things............ :-)
