Sancti Petri

One word sums up today..... FISH! We caught our biggest one yet, a 2.5lb and 19 inches long Atlantic Bonito, very exciting. It was caught 2 miles north of Sancti Petri, on one of the red squid lures Bol bought with Hamish from Scotties in Newport.

It has now been grilled and devoured, we tried some raw as 'sushi' with lemon and soy sauce and it went down well but we preferred it cooked! It livened up a very gentle motor down the coast which was a totally different scene to two days ago.

The entrance got our hearts racing as well as we had entered at low water and as we approached the bar a wave lifted TC up and we found ourselves surfing in through the marker buoys with 20 cm under our keel. Gulp. Fortunately it was all over quite quickly and soon we were back at 5m depth and all was calm once again.

Once past moored boats and a small marina, the river emptied out and we are in a beautiful spot with sand banks and wading and marsh birds on both sides. It reminds us of Newtown River for the peace, and of Alvor (25 Nov) where the fishing boats come past at max speed and as close as possible. Never a dull moment!
