The long awaited wind

Up for most of the night listening to new sounds and fretting with each gust, it was only around 30knots but enough to create new sounds from the rigging, ropes and wires. However, TC bobbed comfortably and no damage was done. Harry in the foc'sle nearly fell out of bed in the bigger gusts but it was all less odd and scary when dawn finally came and we could see what was going on. Now all calm except for the occasional gust that blows through the anchorage.

We have been joined by three other yachts, our delightful neighbours have a 5 month old and a 2 1/2 year old on board, they are braver than us ~ at least our crew row us ashore these days!

This morning Bol spliced rope, the children did 'makey doey' and we played cards, all just waiting for the last bit of the wind to blow through. Then upon the childrens' insistence the three of us headed off for some more snorkelling. This time we went from the beach rather than jumping in off the dinghy which they found it much easier. They both did really well and describe the experience as cold (Harry) and fun (Isabelle). When Harry had turned blue we headed 'home' for some hot chocolate (he turns blue in the West Wight pool!).

A beautiful quiet evening now with the sound of the local church bells ringing and a donkey braying coming across the water to us. The full moon should rise shortly and if we leave to cross Biscay on Wednesday we should have it lighting our night watches which will be wonderfully welcome.

All for now
