Dardanelles to Canakkele

40:09.372N 026:24.370E Canakkale 22/06/12 We left Marmara around 9:15 and soon were sailing under full main and yankee in a mild NE Force 4. We set the Cruising Chute, this time we hoisted it from the back of the boat outside of the Yankee, and then furled the yankee so we were only bareheaded for a couple of minutes. Two Turkish Fighter Jets scream very low overhead heading down the Darnenelles , Vagelis speculates they are going to play with the Greeks. Approaching the main shipping lanes again we drop the Chute reversing the hoisting process. It works very well. Vangelis clearly likes using the Chute and wants to make it as easy as possible. The winds drops and turns East. We motor again. As we enter the Dardanelles we get a strong favourable current. The wind goes ENE and pipes up to Force 7. We hoist the main and motor sail 10+ knots. 17:00 We arrive at Canakkale which is our port of exit. There is no room in the small harbour so have to anchor outside. Demetra and I stay with the boat while Vagelis and Rainia go ashore to shop and hopefully check out so we can leave very early tomorrow for Limnos. He managed part of the paperwork with the port but we have to wait until 9 AM Saturday morning and go ashore to call Customs and Immigration to come to the Port and possibly the boat. I have a quick look ashore and snap a left over Trojan Horse from the film which now sits over looking the harbour. We watch the Germans murder the Greek football team.
