It turns out Nik didn’t really believe in the myth of flying fish but when one landed next to him on a cockpit cushion during his watch, I think he changed his mind. We are still trundling along at 8 knots plus. There’s time to play with cameras. I bought a Nikon D80 for the trip and Steve bought the same model in Gibraltar, Sotiris has a Nikon D70 and Nik arrived with a Nikon D50 They all look alike so I’ve put a red cable tie on mine. Sotiris is giving Steve a Nikon seminar. Maybe we should apply for sponsorship. We will arrive in Mindelo on Sao Vincente in the early hours of Friday morning. There is a new marina which has just opened and we will stay there as security is a bit of an issue as is so often the case in a poor country. We were originally going to visit two of the islands but as I would like to be underway for Rio by end of play on Monday it may make more sense to see one place properly rather than two places on the hop. We’ll see. I had originally allowed almost 5 ½ days to get to Mindelo and we will have done it in 4 ½. I hope we can keep that up for the crossing which is currently budgeted at 18 days. |
