We have spent the last 5 days in Campello north of
Alicante, generally holidaying and sailing with our friends Paul & Lauren
who have a villa in the area. Paul being one of Sealions crew during the trip
from the UK across the Bay of Biscay to North West Spain.
Today we decided to go further North and set sail
in, yes you guessed it, a head wind again. The wind picked up steadily through
the morning to give us a steady 20 knots of wind and some good swell/chop which
frequently sent water and spray over the bow - Alison loved it.
On route to the Port of Altea we passed the
infamous Benidorm and its Island some 3 miles off the coast. The town is
amazing with high rise hotels all along the bay - Alison says the lonely planet
guide says one of the hotels is the highest in Europe. Not a place we
wanted to stop at. By contrast Altea is rated as one of the prettiest old towns
along the coast.
The coast north of here has a number of bays for
anchoring off - We wont go too far north though as Valencia has the Formula 1
race which is run around the marina this coming weekend. We just heard that
some yachts have arrived to watch and our paying 30,000 Euros for the mooring -
Whilst they may be bigger than us our budget doesn't extend that
far.
