exercise good for us! Having taken a change of clothes and left Riki with his
Ganja we headed back North and had a superb lunch at the Riverside Cafe (and
check the site for some good photos) where we could have stayed for hours in the
relaxing surroundings.

On the way back we passed through the Carib Indian
Reserve where only genuine Caribs are allowed to live; they are renowned for
their agricultural and handicraft skills and they sell a lot of genuine
hand made products at the side of the road.
The airport will not take very large jets although
there are regular services within the Caribbean. We passed several hotels that
had been closed or never opened or quite completed for one reason or another and
we passed other hotels under construction- I do wonder about their
financial success!
One village had a large sign proudly proclaiming
the assistance they had received from the EU for various projects including
Animal Husbandry, Organic Farming, Taloma Factory and other things. This is a
photo of the Taloma Factory which appeared to consist of 3 plastic tubs at the
road side where arrowroot was washed and sieved into a type of flour for
breadmaking.

We also saw incredibly basic tin sheds where the
oil was extracted from Bay leaves for " essential oils". Dominica is known as "
Nature Isle" and they are pushing the Eco Tourism angle. ( www.communitytourism.dm)

following food stuffs growing.
Bread fruit, bread nuts, coffee, sorrel, mangoes,
bananas, papaya, oranges, coconuts, starfruit, lettuce, cabbages, cucumbers,
potatoes, christophene, dasheen, cinnamon, nutmeg, pineapple, limes, cocoa,
passionfruit, bay, tamarind. callaloo and many more!
After an eleven hour day we arrived back at
Portsmouth having had a great day out and enjoyed Stanley's
company.
