A day to sail onwards and northwards and perhaps a chance to leave before the mid-day thunderstorms roll in..that was the plan! We slipped off the mooring bouy at 11:00 a.m. and headed for the passage to the Atlantic on a high tide. Then came the clouds - grey at first, turning quickly black, closely followed by flashes of lightening and rolling thunder out at sea. "1 and 2 and 3 and.." - 8 miles away, 6 miles away.. Suddenly it seemed a very busy passageway - small fishing boats all heading back to shore - it seemed we were going "against the tide" so to speak! What did they know we didn't. No doubt about the threatening storms!!
Sails set, waterproofs on, down came the rain - not too bad, no strong wind gusts, just loud thunder and discerning flashes of lightening overhead. Not long before we (or more likely the storms) had moved away, a light southerly wind set in for the afternoon and night - full sails with the genoa goose-winged, we slipped along at a steady pace, enjoying the sun set over the distant shoreline and the painted clouds of the late evening. just another night at sea.
