It seemed a long night as we slipping slowly over the mercury like surface - not a breath of wind. Eventually the moon broke through the clouds, a welcome light across the otherwise dark blankness of the sea. Venus rose from the east, pre-dawn, casting an eerie "planet" beam of light from horizon to boat side. Finally dawn ended the night's darkness, highlighting more clouds but more like fair-weather cumulus - it was going to be a hot day!
Timed for high tide, we turned towards at the safe water mark towards the navigation bouys marking the shoals and sand banks (having checked with U.S. "SeaTow" the bouys were all in place. Waves break over the shallow banks either side - not a channel to make a mistake on entrance or exit! No problems, reasonable water depth, before long we were safely inside St Augustine inlet headed toward a mooring bouy overlooking the fort and downtown - a welcome rest!
Transom BBQ at the ready, lobster tails and giant shrimps marinating for the evening's enjoyment (courtesy of Fort Pierce local fish market - alas not caught from the boat)! Sundowners and backgammon. A perfect end to a long haul up from Fort Pierce in almost zero wind!
