Here we are again in St Martin, we had a good time in Anguilla a nice
island but a little expensive, it didnât cost us anything to be at anchor in
Road Bay but if we had wanted to go to any of the other bays it was going to
cost $75.00 a day and you were only allowed to stay for the day you had to come
back to Road Bay for the night, needless to say we stayed put.
The day we arrived their was a round the island race with the local racing
yachts and a huge party on the beach that evening, great fun, also for any of
you who saw the journeys of the Picton Castle on TV we were anchored in the same
bay so have some good photoâs of her, promised for the next entry.
We waved goodbye to Jim and Ammichure on Thursday and had a cracking sail
under headsail only back to Marigot Bay (French Side of the island) in time to
join the âreturn to Europeâ forum which was interesting. Friday we rounded
the island and came under the Dutch Bridge to return to our former anchorage in
the Bay, the reason we have to use the Dutch Bridge is that although they say
there is a 2 metre clearance in the French channel leading to the bridge, we
actually ran aground the day we tried to leave with Jim, he had to tow us out of
the mud, thankfully it is a muddy/sandy bottom but as we didnât fancy sitting in
it for any length of time we rounded the island.
Everything has been closed since we got back here, it is carnival time, so
we are waiting for the offices and chandleries to open Tuesday and then we shall
prepare to leave here and head South for Grenada where we are planning to spend
the hurricane season and then back to the Carribean and North in 2012, at least
that is the plan for the moment......... Not an easy decision as I miss family
and friends very much but feel if we come home now we may not do this again so
want to make the most of it while we can.
Promise the next mail will be pictures.
