We are slowly approaching the Ilha De Saao Miguel. We
approaching the point, at which we would turn into the Ponta Delgata harbour...
But to make the landfall -- we need light, and
the dawn is still a couple of hours away...
We have ~14 nm to go... But the irony is -- the
combination of the swell and the wind puts the limit how much I can
slow the boat and be in comfortable conditions... Right now our speed
veries from 3.5 knots to 5 knots... I've read a while
ago, ' ... Each ediot can make the sailing boat to move... It takes a lot of
knowledge and efforts to slow her down...'
Tonight, I'm experiencing how true the statement is...
The weather does not want to cooperate
eiher... The light rain starts and stops all the time... Small puffs of
winds, causing the change in wind gradient +/- 10 degrees all the
time... The moon is not seen... But instead, it highlights the clouds,
adding some dramatic tones to the ocean around... The lights on
the island -- just infront of us, on port side... We should be there... by
early morning...
Indeed, the best way to finish
the passage leg -- to plan the next one... Jim Cornell's
books, Admiralty pilots --- I have a feelinig I would
soon be ready to quote them by heart... Plus plenty of dates,
which do not want to make any sense and to lay into reasonable
time table...EU visa regulation for the Canadians... And, of
course, -- the weather and winds...
I've been putting the above puzzle
together during the whole day... And my head is spinning now...
The only thing I know for sure -- where I would like to
be, as soon as possible... ;-) But before start to move
there -- I need to reach Ponta Delgata...
That is all now. The boat is asking for some
attention.
Talk to you soon,
M.
