We are in Puerto Rico. Little America. the ambience has changed completely
from only a few days ago. In St Kitts it was definitely Caribbean as most people
imagine, Reggae and calypso country. We passed through BVI which I find
difficult to define and now the Spanish influence is overwhelming. Last
night we anchored in Salinas, up a creek in amongst the mangroves, a beautiful
location with a vast expanse of rolling hills as a backdrop. We managed to find
a few interesting bars ashore ending up in Sal Pa’ Dentro. A lively place. We
were entertained by a group celebrating someone’s birthday we think and seemed
to get involved with rounds of whiskey shots and carrot cake!
We motored to Ponce today. No wind at all, on the way we anchored at the
Isla Caja de Muertos for lunch, an isolated place and a popular weekend
anchorage for the locals.
At our anchorage in Ponce outside the Yacht Club the Latino beat is
powerful coming from a local bar and will probably be with us until the small
hours unless the local council byelaws kick in. We can live in hope.
