Port Elizabeth, Bequia
The Travels of Running Tide

Hi
We are in Bequia now. The passage to here from Mustique was a little
unusual but very effective. We went over the North of Bequia and came into Port
Elizabeth from the north. The sail up the east side of Bequia gave Sally a few
anxious moments, up to 30 knots of wind and a beat into a big sea. Even so we
were doing up to 6/7 knots. (Personally I think we were actually way
off course and
going round Cape Horn).
Bequia is busy but a very attractive and friendly place.
We have quite a number of passengers on board RT apart from the crew of
three. They walk around the deck like tourists on a cruise liner. When the deck
is awash they disappear only to return immediately the deck dries. They are
everywhere, one is even walking over the screen as I type this missive.
Our unpaying passengers are ants. They boarded us in Grenada Marina whilst RT
was stored and haven’t left yet. Occasionally we are nasty to them and spray
them but we generally get along just fine. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of
them are with us in UK.
After are outboard went for it second swim we decided that we had to give
it a special name. So Dolphin will be with in the dinghy for ever more. This
will go along with the Squid for the tow along gene, Monica the self steering
gear and Vinden the wind generator. At the moment Vinden is doing a sterling job
keeping our batteries topped up on the anchorages.
We were chatting to a couple who had just returned from Mustique, she came
from Dudlie so we spoke the same language. They said that the whole
Middleton entourage had been in Basil’s Bar a few days before we were there,
including George and Kate. Tut, we had just missed them.
As we are now in Bequia and are about to be topped up with water we
have all been allowed by the Captain to have a shower. He thinks by
switching off the water we are all using a regulation 1 inch of water to
wash, clean our teeth and do the washing up. Washing clothes is
banned. However, I have found where Captain switches off the water so
rather more is being used by the female population of the boat than our dear
Captain thinks!!! Needless to say Dolphin was the first to have a shower
after her second sinking – Captain was worried re the salt water in her
motor. I think the ants are also having more than their fair share of
water too.
I’m still waiting for Norm Musings watch this space.
