Our current position is anchored in Chesterfield Reef off Chesterfield Island at 19 53.41S 158 27.93E

We arrived here on Sunday morning in clear conditions and before long were in the middle of a thunder storm with torrential rain which was kind of nice as it meant we had a clean and salt free boat.  It did make life a bit tough for Whiskers who were a few hours behind us and had to wait a while to get some visibility back before they could anchor.

The afternoon cleared up a bit so we went for a walk on the island which was fantastic with the island teeming in birdlife.  It wasn’t long before the clouds returned and we were surrounded by thunderstorms and lightening for the entire night.  The storms certainly put on an impressive light show which was both amazing to watch but a little nerve wracking as well.

Since our arrival we have been for a number of walks on the island and been snorkelling and seen some lovely pristine coral but not too many big fish although we did encounter a shark which we were unable to identify.  Di has been taking our anchoring stick (the broken boat hook that we use for laying out the chain in the anchor locker) and were quite pleased to have it with us on this occasion.    Yesterday we saw our first turtles in the lagoon so it looks like turtle nesting season will be starting here soon.

We have had some company for our stay here. .  There was already a yacht anchored in the lagoon when we arrived which we have found out is Johnny, a Swedish solo sailor on his boat Amarante, who is also on his way to Bundaberg.  We had Whiskers arrive a few hours after we dropped anchor and were on their way again on Monday afternoon. .  A third boat Idyll Island arrived on Tuesday and is heading off this morning.

We have been very lucky to enjoy some very calm conditions while we have been here which is the main reason for stopping for the four days.  The weather is starting to look somewhat better over the next few days so we will be departing tomorrow morning (Thursday) heading to Bundaberg and expect to arrive late Sunday afternoon or evening.

Will post some photos once we have internet access again
