After
a very lovely couple of weeks around Port Vila and the island of Efate we are on
our way again north. We have had a crew change. Miss Amanda is now back in Melbourne and Leapy
Lynda joined us last Saturday after a short escape down to Tanna to meet up with
Mt Yasur!
After our final provision until we get to Santo we departed from the
Yachting World wharf at Port Vila on Monday 22nd July. Our first stop is
to revisit Havannah Harbour so we spent a couple of very nice evenings in Ai
Creek with the company of Annabelle and Huntress (more like
small ships than motor launches). Naturally we had to head back to the
Wahoo bar for a spot of lunch and a couple of rather nice Magherita’s as
well.
As much as we would like to spend forever at Efate it is also time to say
farewell and say hello to the other islands in Vanuatu.
On our first day we didn’t get too far with our first stop at Nawora Matua
Bay (aka Hakuna Matata) on Nguna (position “17:25.604S 168:19.435E”) which is
approximately 15nm from Ai Creek. We had a great afternoon here and went
ashore to watch to local soccer game – luckily the local team won although
everyone watching seemed to cheer for pretty much anything that happened on the
field! We also met the chief and he gave us a bit of a tour of the village
including his recently opened bungalows. The anchorage and water here is
amazingly clear and we can easily see all the fish on the bottom along with
plenty of coral around the boat in 13 metres of water
Thursday the 25th and we are on our way again. Our next destination
is Sula Bay on the island of Emae which is around 25NM almost due north.
The island and bay is renowned for its snorkelling so we will keep our
fingers crossed.
