Current position is 21:27.995S 165:58.816E anchored at Port Mackau in the
Baie de Canala which is on the east coast and pretty much where all the nickel
mines are so not the prettiest place in the world.
After a wonderful week at Lifou with all the white sands and aqua water
around us we are up anchor early on Monday morning to head back to the main
island of New Caledonia. We enjoyed a pleasant night aboard last evening
with Francois and the crew on The Classic who we first
met in Mooloolaba a couple of years ago – he mainly remembers us as we were the
boat that had to replace their engine mounts!!!
It is pleasing to report that for a whole week Sally has been run on
renewable energy – the solar panels and wind generator have being doing an
awesome job and have kept up with our daily power usage. We even decided
to watch a couple of movies to use some of the excess power. This also
gave us the opportunity to work out how to use the terabyte of films that were
supplied to us by the McWylies.
The plan is to head down the coast for the next few days and hopefully find
something a bit more interesting than nickel mines before heading back in
through the Havannah Passage later in the week. Will report again
soon
