We arrived at Sulua Bay on the small island of Emae at lunch time after a
very pleasant sail from the island of Nguna.
Our position at Sulua Bay is “17:02.998S 168:22.220E”.
The bay is very pretty with plenty of coral reefs and bommies in the
anchorage.
After a spot of lunch we went and explored one reef which had some amazing
fish, including a very cheeky coral trout but the coral was a bit knocked about
so we will need to do some more exploration tomorrow as well as a shore party to
see if we can find the local village. So far we have seen very few people
around and no fires at night.
On Thursday we headed ashore in search of the village and found many and
plenty of people. We went for a good wander and found about 4 villages and
also the local English speaking Junior school. As the Independence Day for
Vanuatu is just around the corner (Tuesday 30th July) the celebrations are
already starting so we decided to stop for a while to watch the local football
(soccer game) which was lots of fun. A snorkel was in order for the
afternoon especially as the weather is sunny and warm.
After a bit of a rollie and windy night we were off early (around 8am) for
the 23NM trip across to Revolieu Bay on the island of Epi. Epi is quite a
large but fairly flat island which is a bit unusual around here. It is
also famous for the friendly Dugong’s up in Lamen Bay so we are very much
looking forward to that.
