E Having done most of the preparations for getting Sylph ready for sea over the weekend, come this morning at 0800 we were able to throw off the dock lines and motor over to the fuel wharf. After filling up the fuel tanks, we motored out of Outer Harbor and once clear of the breakwaters, turned into the freshening SE breeze, set the main and jib, then bore away to the SSW, shutting down the BRM as we did so. It is a great day to start a voyage. The sky is clear with just the odd small cumulus cloud over the Mount Lofty Ranges, the city of Adelaide shines white and silver in the morning sun, the seas are relatively smooth, and Sylph gambols along at a comfortable five to six knots, close reaching in the steady fresh cool breeze blowing off the land. If the wind holds we should be rounding Cape Jervis and entering Backstairs Passage early this evening. Tomorrow the wind is forecast to back into the NE and freshen further; so, if all goes well, we should make some good miles over the first several days of our passage to Brisbane. All is well. |
