For the data-minded , here are some key stats for the first leg.

 

Overall distance sailed Dartmouth – Cascais = 910 miles

Total time underway (i.e. moving , not at anchor or alongside) = 155 hours, of which 66.4 were under engine power

Overall average speed of 5.88 knots

 

More interesting is the Salcombe to La Coruna passage across the Bay of Biscay which took 75.5 hours to cover the 480.5 miles , an average speed of 6.36 knots. On the day before we got in to La Coruna, in a strong breeze with 2 and sometimes 3 reefs in the main and genoa, we covered 171.9 miles at an average speed of 7.16 knots which is good going for a 39 foot yacht !
