We duly entered the tropics last evening but we were motoring at the time so it felt a bit of a cheat! We had had a frustrating afternoon with very light and variable winds, prompting some renewed calculations and discussion on how much we could afford to use the engine while keeping sufficient in reserve for future calm spells and if we need to top up the batteries (though solar working well). After switching off the engine and drifting for an hour or so - though the drift was westwards and would have got us to Caribbean in about 3 months- a decent wind got going from the north west and we have been making good progress for the last 10 hours.
IT issues continue with the reception of e mails, but Bilal has been doing a star turn with sending weather and race updates, as well as trying to re programme my laptop!!
We continue to eat very well, though the very dark green bananas which we have by the ton are resisting all inducements to ripen in the sun! No fish caught as yet, we lack the experienced anglers of previous legs!
