Another Grand Day Out - Thursday 19 Jan 12
Time to hire a car and explore. We had been advised to go to Half Moon Beach for a swim and it was indeed very lovely although do not let the fact that Mike is standing here in his swimming shorts mislead you. He didn’t actually go in.
Carol did go in for a swim. She then left her swimmers to dry on the top of the car so of course we drove off without them and only realised at the end of the day. Half an hour drive back and there they were, in the grass on the bend where we first accelerated after coming of the beach.
A long drive down a pot holed track (the hire car hub caps are held on with cable ties for just this reason apparently) and we came to Devils Bridge where a bridge of rock has formed and the surf blasts up spectacularly. Except when you are trying to take a photograph so is another mediocre splash. On to Betty’s Hope, a former sugar plantation and refinery. Not a lot to see and what there was, was closed even though the sign at the end of the very long potholed track said that it was open.
