Anchoring lessons

39:51.01N 25:13.70E The story in pictures. First of all you have to try and find where the anchor has
got to since you dropped it...... Oh, well done, Zoe’s got it. On the port side. Then you have to signal to Jamie on the helm so that he
knows which way to nudge the boat. Zoe showing excellent, clear arm and
hand movements here while Mike is slightly losing control of his left hand and
splaying his fingers. Note too that Zoe is multitasking; she has the windlass
(anchor motor) control box in her right hand so she is pressing the button to
lift the anchor at the same time as indicating the necessary direction of
travel with confident authority. And finally, letting Jamie know that the anchor has lifted
off the bottom so that Jamie knows he can start to move slowly out of the
bay. Note here again that Zoe is giving exactly the right uplifted palm
signal with a gentle lift of the arm whereas Mike has taken a rather too
excitable full-on wave of the arm that could easily confuse. Not sure who was teaching who on this occasion but the
anchor was safely lifted and we went on our way. |
