![]() The mission, a tough one, was to sail back South down the Lesser Antilles or Windwards Islands of the Caribbean. Poached from Chris Doyle but none the less interesting - “The islands of the Caribbean sweep southwards in a huge arc, like a string of giant-sized stepping stones from Florida to Venezuela". The southern end of the chain from St Lucia to Grenada via, St Vincent, Bequia, Mustique, Tobago Cays, Mayreau, Union Island and Carriacou was Carango’s final mission of the year. Well we had a full crew briefing before scrubbing down the deck and a meal of flying fish complete with crispy battered wings washed down with some salt water. There was the odd restaurant meal and the odd G & T and the odd bottle or two of vino. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We had a thoroughly enjoyable little cruise down the islands for nine days and nights. The Spa at Capella resort, Marigot Bay, St lucia then Bequia and a visit to the famous Bequia Resort Hotel, Mustique for lunch at the Cotton House, Tobago Cays to swim with the turtles, Saltwhistle Bay - Mayreau for a beach jump up with Kimron and his team and some lobsters, Union to dine with Shark Attack - only to find that this poor guy had crashed his speedboat and was away having some repairs effected on the other side of the island. I am happy to report that he did turn up as we were leaving Chatham Bay but he looked a bit less swashbuckling than of old. We sailed on to Carriacou and the Slipway restaurant for a superb steak and finally a dive on the sculpture park and to rest in Port Louis, St George’s, Grenada. It was a great ending to what has been an epic voyage. More adventures of Carango will be published when she returns to service in January 2018. |
