12:27.84N 71:45.10W Fresh Pawpaw and lime is a really delicious way to start the day - this could become an institution on Carango. Good overnight sail with 3 sail changes and some limited motor sailing - we are keen not to miss the activities in Santa Marta. ![]() ![]() ![]() We have had the most spectacular display by a huge pod of dolphins this evening Wednesday 13th Jan almost a ballet - so elegant and totally athletic - this was the most beautiful we have ever seen in our sailing anywhere. Columbia is proving a wonderful destination. Also this evening we have had the longest uninterrupted straight downwind sail with Main and Yankee goose winged and full mizzen: the result has been possibly the fastest sailing I have done with sustained speeds of 9 - 10 knots with busts in surf of 12.3 knots and maybe, when we are not checking the speedo more. For such a heavy cruising yacht with such a heavy owner this is fast. What a crew I am lucky to have……..Vicky and the Morris’s. It has been a very successful day. We are now only one more overnight away from Santa Marta. We have been told to expect a warm welcome from the Columbian coast guard including being buzzed by aircraft and escorted by fast patrol boat to the port/Marina. They are following from shore on AIS and Radar as well as these physical surveillance. |
