12:27.10S 130:49.17E We entered the port waters of Darwin at dawn on Friday 26th August. Carango had to undergo another session of ‘Biosecurity’ - filling the sea water systems with some chemical cleansing agent and waiting for 10 hours before using the sea water consuming equipment on board.  Very modern sky line as we approached under full sail  We siad a sad farewell the Willian and Serena and set forth into Kakadu National Park - we walked and looked at amazing scenery and flora and rock formations. Kakadu park is 20,000 square kilometres given over to Wildness, wildlife and the Aborigines peoples who have populated it for hundreds of years. The land is burnt in rotation by both Aborigines and local white Australians.It is unlike anything we had seen before. Crocodiles abound along with Wild Pigs, Wild Horses, Goannas, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Koala Bears, Buffaloes and extremely impressive and varied birdlife.  Crocs up to 6.2 metres long and weighing a ton and a half can run at 40 kmh and jump about 3 meters straight out of the water. These swirling Black and Whistling Kites are abundant and very acrobatic over the water. |
