Roy Ratazzi joined me on the leg from South of France down to Spain. Tragically Vicky’s darling mother, Anne Bigge, died with Vicky at her side in Devon. I needed to get back to England as soon as possible and so we sailed somewhat of a marathon direct to Palma, Majorca so I could get back and be of some comfort to Vicky.

Roy proved a brilliant yachtsman and he mended everything in sight immediately so we had new whippings, new stitching, renovated locks and much else to the extent that when we did arrive in Palma; Carango was probably in better condition repair wise than ever.

Many thanks Roy - I hope you will join us on another leg. We spent the night at anchor in Mahon bay and weighed anchor at 04.30 in pitch dark for a somewhat hairy departure with virtually zero visibility and Roy guiding from on deck out of the glare of the instruments - we hope we didn’t wake up to many other yachtsmen that morning.

We flew back the following morning.
