Jolly Harbour

Lots of rain showers and no wind with humidity 85+%. Feels very warm and doing any jobs sweat pours off you. Today have removed carpets and given them a good bashing a sweeping to get them less dusty. Have left them over the electric plinths on the jetty and letting the rain give them a bit of a rinse as they do dry out quickly. The engine checked and added a little bit of oil as still have a leak. Floorboards lifted and any rusty water in there from when cans in the bilges cleaned out and dried. All the food under tye forward bunk removed to see what we have for the return. Sweets, John has enough to keep him going until end of next year, I just have 18 days worth left. Biscuits are a plenty to get us back to UK. Baguettes just
13 left. We will get a couple loafs of bread and should be ok to the Azores. Tinned food sorted. All good condition cans stowed in plastic boxes to be had at end of leg and maybe on final one to UK. The dodgy ones put in galley cupboard and easiest plastic
box to get to. Today, even though all sorted 2 days ago found some more leaking ones. It is the tinned fruit ones that have had all the leaks so quite short. Went to local supermarket to replace leaking cans, not a very good selection for fruit and mostly have ones in a thick syrup not juice. No real meat options except corned beef and tinned ravioli. Have got enough for this leg allowing for
more tins to explode and hope Azores will have improved selection. Looking at the weather and routing options Wednesday may not be good day to leave due lack of wind. With the routing set up to motor at 5 knots if boat speed with wind less than 4 knots a couple of models have us motoring 8 days, we only
carry enough full in tank and jerry cans for 4 days. Another 2 days to se an improvement, I suspect unlikely though. |
