Dear Blog

Noon position 36.25N 49.35W -- only 88 miles dome from noon yesterday but we were absolutely becalmed for 10 hours, drifting at about a 1 knot.

Now we are cracking along again with a Force 4 wind behind us and the large gennaker up and doing 6.5 knots roughly in the right direction. Wind is due to increase by tomorrow morning and by Friday morning we will have a SW.gale which will be fun. Still hope to be in by Monday evening but with the fickleness of the weather, no engine and still with 1000 miles to go, nobody knows. We have only done 800 miles in just over 6 days.

The sea life has been fantastic - by far the best I have ever seen. We get visits by dolphins at least twice a day - pic shows a rare successful still photo of  striped dolphins - the pod must have numbered 50 or more. Nick had a swim in mid ocean about 2000 hrs last night and managed not to get eaten - David had been regaling us with a story about the last person he knew who did that and never came back, which cheered him! Unusually AJB funked it 'cos it was cold and nearly dark but will if another opportunity arises despite the water temp. Simon finally agreed to take Stugeron and is fine.

Apart from 1 steamer , we have not seen any other boats for 2 days now. The Atlantic is a big ocean to lose 25 boats that started from Bermuda about the same time as us. Thinking of John and Sue Clarke (crew for Madeira 9 months ago) also in the Atlantic but southern Atlantic and sailing from South Georgia to Uruguay - Tristan da Cunha apparently has been cancelled
