On Monday we set off and sailed round to Daniel’s bay.

Daniel’s bay is a beautiful heart shape bay completely sheltered from the wind.  It is called Daniel’s bay after Daniel who lived there on his own a long time ago.

Early this century there were a lot of people living in the left hand valley and on the island, but before the first world war when ships from civilization started coming, they brought with them disease and a population of about 300,000 people went down to a few thousand.

We were not able to go swimming as there were sharks near the boat.  We went ashore and had a look round and then we had a bbq on the beach with a few other rally people.

Tuesday morning we set off on a hike to a waterfall with some local guides.

The view was beautiful and we were rewarded with a swim at the end in a pool at the bottom of the waterfall.  As it has not rained much now for several months there was not much water in the actual waterfall.

Down in the little village we got treated to some fruit – mango and passion fruit.

In the village (well a village of about 3 wooden huts) and in the other bay they have installed a hose from a spring further up so fresh water is available. 

We got permission to use this and later on in the afternoon, Steve, Tom and I went ashore and had showers from the tap which was wonderful.
