Today readers, we bring you a crew profile;
Skip is The envey of many a younger man on the dock, who covet both his lovely wife and his 'ferrari'yacht. Like many of his generation, suffers from a 'computer tourret's' syndrome, whereby he can't spend more than 5 minutes on a PC without an outburst of colourful language. A big fan of traditional navigation techniques. Constantly plotting. Able to prepare restaurant quality food under any conditions, very much the
nautical man's Nigella. When others around her are losing their heads, Cristine
is to be found clutching a copy of good housekeeping, eagerly planning the
boat's christmas decorations.
An accomplished skipper in his own right, Tim has taken on a vital role; he
is responsible for keeping us afloat. his background in water meters makes him
adept at tracking exactly how much water is coming into the boat, a
figure we hope doesn't exceed the amount leaving the boat. Runs on
sugar, in all its forms.
Gaining her atlantic wings with much decorum, Karen is making less progress
than hoped on her french lessons. Susceptible to getting sunburn from a full
moon. On coming off watch having helmed through a gale-force squall at night,
she was heard to mutter that she just clutched the wheel with fright, being
unable to leave her post since her legs had long since turned to jelly. A
favourite target for kamikaze flying fish.
Another experienced skipper, Carl is equally at home fixing furlers or
fahitas, mending mainsails or mast fittings. There was no shortage of volunteers
from the female crew when carl needed help lathering up in a deck shower. The
quest continues to find if there is anything that the chipper lad from Southend
can't fix.
Having carefully timed his arrival in order that all the preparation was
already complete, griff is already planning a swift escape in order to avoid the
tidying up. Rumour has it that he only got his place on the crew since he was
related to the skipper, but, what with the skipper's looks, wit and charm,
this is a charge he denies. Some say the white look on his face is his
sun-block, others say it's the look of terror, from his imagining the response
of his missus if he's late home.
So after a week of driving the ferrari along in first gear, the wind is soon set to turn light, and we hope to try putting up some more sail, fingers crossed that our repairs hold up. All set to cross the halfway point in the next 24 hours. |
